It was a good day for Quebec here in Calgary today. The heads-up battle in Event #7 on Tuesday was between two Quebecois, and Steven Dubois-Daigle from La Prairie, QC bagged the Day 1a chip lead in the Monster Stack. He was the only player with more than 2 million chips, but Evan Thomas, Yiqiang Xie, and Ryan Comely all bagged more than a million.
Full chip counts for Day 1a qualifiers can be found under the Chip Counts tab, but I won't publish any seat assignments until Day 1b is complete.
Player | Home | Chips |
Steven Dubois-Daigle | La Prairie, QC | 2,310,000 |
Evan Thomas | Victoria, BC | 1,590,000 |
Yiqiang Xie | Hamilton, ON | 1,365,000 |
Ryan Comely | Edmonton | 1,000,015 |
Shawn Taghavi | Edmonton | 965,000 |
Day 1a of the Monster Stack is over and 27 players bagged up chips in the end. They paused the clock with 10:42 remaining in Level 22, but it's going to be a bit before I have a chance to enter the chip counts as I'm still watching the $1k final table, and the $1k Turbo is nearing the final table as well.
Action is now in Level 20 and they are down to 42 players left, just 15 off the early end to the night. It seems likely they'll bag up early sometime in Level 21 or 22, but there's still poker to be played.
The action is in Level 19 now for Day 1a of the Monster and they are down to 49 players left. That means there are 30 Day 1 payouts already claimed, and you can find details of who pocketed the cash so far under the Payouts tab.
Day 1a of the Monster Stack is in Level 15 now with 108 players left alive. That puts them 28 players off the money spots, with Day 1a scheduled to last until the end of Level 24 or they hit 27 players, whichever comes first.
There are 180 players left in the game at the dinner break. There are another 12 levels on the schedule after they return from dinner, but odds are they'll hit 5% of the field well before the end of Level 24.
Once all the entries were counted they settled on a field of 530 for Day 1a. That puts the prizes from today's flight at $174,900 and represents an increase of 36 entries over the Jan 2023 numbers for the Monster.
There will be 80 players sharing in the Day 1a prizes, but at least 27 of them will have to wait for Day 2 to get their prize, while the rest will walk away from today with money in hand.
Day 1a for the Monster Stack was another big one, capping last year's Day 1a total by almost 40 entries. The 532 number is still unofficial but if it holds, it should mean there were $175,560 in prizes from today 80 players will share those prizes. At least 27 players will advance from today into Day 2.
Prizes for Day 1a should be posted shortly and I'll confirm the numbers at that time.
Event #9: $400 Monster Stack ($330 + $70)
Day 1: Jan 16/17, 11 am
Day 2: Jan 18
Starting Stack: 40k
Blinds: 30 Minutes
Registration: 8 Levels (~3:30 pm)
Day 1 Ends: 24 Levels or 5% of the Field
15%-5% Paid on Day 1
The Monster Stack is among the most popular tournaments at the WSOP-C. Last year there were nearly 1,200 entries in the field for a prize pool of $395,715.
The action kicks off at 11 am for Day 1 play and there will be two shots to bag a Day 1 stack. Day 1a runs on Tuesday, Jan 16 while Day 1b goes on Wednesday. Players start the day with 20k in chips and play as many as 24 30-minute levels before they bag for the night, but the game will bag early if they hit 5% of the field before the end of Level 24.
Players can get into the game for 8 levels on Day 1, putting the final chance to buy in at about 3:30 pm on each Day 1. Players who finish from 15% to 5% on Day 1 will get paid before they leave.
Most of my attention on Tuesday will be on the two $1k events, but I'll try to update numbers as much as possible throughout the day.
