When the dust settled on registration for the final event of this 2024 WSOP-C Calgary, the Big 30 Stack got an astonishing 606 entries. The 20-minute blinds meant it played down very quickly with the final hands playing out less than 11 hours after cards went in the air.
By the time I got to watch anything they were already at the final table, and the pace continued just as quickly. It was a dream ending for Tyler Thomas as he got heads up against James Lahey with the lead after winning a race against Andrew Bonnard to send him to the rail. Lahey was down about 2:1 when they got heads up, and he tried to chip up with aggressive play.
His first shove over an open from Thomas got through to pick up 800k, but the next hand Thomas woke up with aces and snap-called the open-shove from Lahey. This is Thomas' second win and first Circuit ring and the $23k score should push his Hendon Mob earnings over $100k.
It was a brutal end for James Lahey after about 11 hours of turbo play in the final Ring event of the 2024 WSOP-C Calgary. Tyler Thomas had the big stack after knocking out Andrew Bonnard in third and heads up only lasted a couple of hands. In one of the first hands of heads-up play Lahey shoved over a raise to 800k from Thomas and got the fold.
On the next hand, however, he hit a nightmare when he shoved again and Thomas snapped him off after waking up with pocket aces. Lahey turned a bit of hope when he paired his jack, but he couldn't crack the aces and had to settle for second place.
Tyler Thomas raised the small blind to 750k before Andrew Bonnard shoved the big for about 5 million. Thomas snap-called with and was racing against nines for Bonnard. The flop of
was all Thomas, and the
turn seeled the deal for Thomas.
Thomas now leads heads up with about 12 million of the 18 million in play.
With play three-handed now all remaining players are guaranteed at least $10,449 for third place, but there is $23k up top for the winner tonight.
Things are moving quickly on the Big 30 Stack final table now with 3 players remaining. Mike Kim, Stafan Maloney, Zee Castro, and Marc Lavergne were among the final table players to hit the rail so far.
The Big 30 Stack is down to 43 players now and the known cashouts are listed under the payouts tab now, with the caveat that there is a blank spot as 47th place hasn't claimed their prize yet.
The Big 30 Stack is in the money now and down to 84 players remaining. I'm still watching the final 8 in the High Roller, but it looks likely I'll make it over for the tail end of the Big 30 later on.
The prizes are up and it was a huge one in the Big 30 Stack. Even without much coverage, they got a massive 606 entries for the final Ring event of this series.
The puts $121,413 in prizes and 91 players will be taking some piece of that money later tonight. Like all the games today, it seems to be playing pretty quickly over there. I haven't been watching it, but in Level 17 they are down to 126 players left, just 35 off the money.
