Jenelle Exner seems to like it here at WSOP-C Calgary - and who could blame her when she wins back-to-back rings here? Exner took down this Ladies event back in May over a bigger field for a bit more than $12k. Now, she's done it again, getting through 80 entries in this one for a score of $7,572.
Exner had the big stack tonight for much of the endgame, stacking big from 16 players all the way down. Barb Walser did give her a run for the money, especially at the final table when Walser took over the lead a couple of times. Exner was always quick to get it back, however, and her aggression was no small part of that. She used her big stack masterfully to pressure smaller stacks in ICM spots with big raises, and it paid off with the lead for most of the final table.
This marks her second ring in her second lifetime win. In fact, she is a relative newcomer to the live game with only five results on her Hendon page, including tonight. With the two most recent entries being Ring wins, it might be a safe bet her page will fill out soon enough.
They went from three to a winner in just a single hand tonight in a massive three-way cooler. All three players put their money in before the flop, though Barb Walser took a while to decide to finally do it. She had the best of it preflop with everyone on a pair - Fives for the low pair for Jenelle Exner, eights for Jen Peters (which she called the "Asian aces" when she flipped them over), and jacks for Walser.
Exner had everyone covered but it looked like Walser was on pace for a massive chip-up to lead the heads-up. Then poker happened. The flop shot Exner's bottom pair to the lead with a set, and
bricked for the other two players. Peters was the short stack so she took 3rd place for $3,242 while Walser grabbed the runner-up prize of $4,843.

Jen Peters has been mostly staying out of the way of Jenelle Exner and Barb Walser. In one recent hand, the limped blind on blind to the flop of . Walser bet 40k, then shoved when exner clicked it back to 80k, forcing Exner to fold. Walser showed jack-eight for the flopped two pair.
Two hands later, Exner limped the button and got a check from Walser in the big blind. They both checked the flop and Exner called 50k on the
turn. Walser checked the
river, then tanked for a bit when Exner fired 300k. Walser eventually folded, saying she put Exner on the flush draw.

Khaly Dang had the best jack with jack-ten and a jack on board, but her opponent's jack-seven hit two pair for the win.

They are down to five shortly after the break as Jen Luebkert hit the rail for 6th place. I didn't see the hand, but Barb Walser now has 600k in front of her, while Jenelle Exner is down to about 460k, so clearly Walser has been running hot since the break.

Jenelle Exner is still the leader, though she sent a double to Jen Luebkert just before the break. Money went in on the flop with Exner on flopped queens against flopped tens. Another ten on the turn flipped the script and the river paired again for the riverboat for Luebkert.

It was blind on blind when Jen Luebkert limped the small blind and Barb Walser checked her option in the big. The flop was and Wasler called a bet of 18k from Luebker.
paired the turn and Luebkert fired 30k. Walser raised to 70k and took it down.
There are about 5 minutes left in Level 16 and I'll grab full counts at the break.
Jenelle Exner is the chip leader and she knows it. In the final hand of the last level, she limped early for 12k, then called when Jen Peters raised the button to 28k. The wet flop was and Exner checked to Peteres who bet 30k. Exner asked to see her stack, then shoved, forcing the fold from Peters.
In the first hand of Level 16, Barb Walser, whose stack has dwindled some, got a double through Jen Luebkert when her got there with a turned 8 against the rainbow king-ten.
Walsner then doubled again, this time through Exner when she hit an ace on the flop for the best pair. Exner still has the lead despite sending some chips to her right.

This was Claire Leclerc's second final table of the series after she was runner-up to Sunny Lubana in the Two-Day $1k. She was one of the short stacks at the final table and had to settle for 7th tonight.

They are down to 7 now after Alicia Dodds just busted for 8th place. She came to the final table quite short but managed to ladder to a few spots to almost $1,000. With 7 left they are now a little over 20 big blinds average, but that will change in about 13 minutes when the level bumps again. All the current stacks (estimated) are posted under chip counts.

They are down to 8 now after Annee Ngo ended her night in 9th. Prizes are now updated under the Payouts tab and Level 15 has just begun with the average stack still less than 20 bigs.
Brenda Robertson came to the final table with a short stack and she was the first to exit for 10th place. She did manage to double up once but she was still short.
Wendy Wenaas was the bubble to the final table tonight. She flopped top pair, but Khaly Dang flopped a set of fives for the win. That brings them to 10 and they are setting up the final table now. I'll grab pictures shortly.
The Ladies are in the money now with 11 left. Seol Kin was the first player to cash out tonight for $865. There are just under 10 minutes left in Level 13and the average stack is just over 20 bigs, but drop under 20 against when it moves to 4k/8k/8k for Level 14.
Level 12 is now complete with the field down to 14. They are heading out of the room now for a break and will return two from the money with blinds at 3k/6k/6k and the average stack just under 20 bigs..
I had a look around the room and it looks like Jenelle Exner is the leader with 312k in front of her. It's worth noting that Exner won this tournament in May, so she's looking to go back-to-back. Other big stacks include Barb Walser with about 175k in front of her, Annee Ngo with about 160k in front of here and Jen Peters with about 140k to play right now. Claire Leclerc also looks to be playing a 100k+ stack right now, as is Melissa Sekulich with about 130k. She just lost a big pot right before the break to send a chunk of chips to Ngo.
Jenelle Exner after Winning the Ladies Ring in May 2024
They are down to 15 players left in the Ladies event now, three off the money. There are about 7 minutes left in Level 12 with the average stack at about 25 big blinds with a break scheduled after this level. I'll have a look at the chips during the break as I've decided to move to Chrome for the endgame of the Ladies while we await the results of Day 1c of the Main. I'll still wander over there to look fairly often for updates as they approach the money over there as well, but the Ladies will play to a Ring tonight so I wanted to catch all the ITM action at least.
The numbers are in for the Ladies event and 12 players will be sharing in $26,400 in prizes later tonight. There are 22 players left in the game now, so they are 10 off the money with action in Level 11 now.
Entries are closed on both ring games running tonight and the Ladies ended with 80 entries on the board (unofficial). If that holds it should mean 12 players splitting $26,400 in prizes later tonight. There are 35 players left so the bubble shouldn't take too long to arrive.
The Ladies game has two levels of entry left with 71 entries on the board in Level 7. I had a wander around the Chrome room recently with my video camera to have a look at the Ladies field, and as you can see, they are having fun there (and seemed pretty happy to see me lol). Below is a look at the Ladies, with a look at 1c of the Main tacked on at the end as well.
The Ladies event has a smaller start than I expected with 52 entries on the board for $17k in prizes. Action is in Level 3 with about half the level still to play, so there are is lots of time for the numbers to increase. 200 entries now looks optimistic, but 100 is still well within reach.
Among the players in action today are Cindy Kerslake, who bagged her Main Event stack on Day 1a and won a Seniors ring in 2022, Bernice McLennan, Jennifer Tokarek, Mellisa Sekulich, Fred Balic, Kali Shuali, Peggy Sue, Fatima Nanji, Claire Leclerc, and Gail Flaherty.
Event #14: | $400 Ladies ($330 + $70) |
Date: | Aug 17, 2024, 4 pm |
Blinds: | 30 Minutes |
Start Stack | 20,000 |
Late Entry: | 8 Levels (~8:30 pm) |
The side game on Saturday is the Ladies event, a $400 buy-in with entries restricted to women only. These Ladies events generally get a decent turnout so I'm expecting 200+ entries at least for this one.
Action kicks off at 4 pm and they'll sit down with 20k in chips for 30-minute levels. Late entry is open for 8 levels, plus breaks, which should put the last chance to enter at about 8:30 pm. This is a one-day game so they will finish it up tonight with a ring awarded, though with 30-minute levels, if they play the sull structure of 27 levels they'll be at the felt until as late as 7 am.
Action for this game will go in the Chrome room tonight, and I'll be over to catch the end of this one for sure, or at least part of it. With a noon restart for Day 2 of the Main, I may not be able to make it for the whole game if they play very late, but I'll make my decision later in the evening once I see how things are playing.
