Homan Mohammadi has been close to a ring before with a couple of other final table finishes in past WSOP-C series in Richmond, BC back in the day, but this is the first time he's been the last player standing in a Circuit event. He came into Day 2 with the second stack, and held a big stack through most of the day. He was the chip leader throughout most of the final table.
He used the stack well, pressuring other players in ICM spots to steal chips and maintain the big stack, happy to get out of the way when he met action on a steal. He wasn't scared to call for value either, and at one point he had half of the chips in play with 5 players left. 3rd place Duff Charette did take over the lead briefly three-handed, but it didn't last long, Charette was out about 20 minutes later and though it was runner-up Taran Parmar who collected Charette's chips, it still left Mohammadi in command.
Heads up was pretty quick and the money went in with both players on connected cards. Mohammadi had the best hand technically but they were likely to chop the pot quite often. Mohammadi turned a pair to take a big lead though, and Parmar couldn't catch up.
This is Mohammadi's 4th win on the live felt, but not his biggest score. He'll have more than $700k in live earnings once this one is recorded with this one slotting in third on his list of biggest cashes just above his 2nd place here in 2021 in the Main Event at the Summer Super Stack and a bit below his 2013 3rd place in the Richmond Circuit Main Event.
Taran Parmar had quite a run today in the High Roller, ending up second. He was short for most of the final table, but played the shirt stack very well, mostly avoiding the big pots other players got into. In the process, he managed to ladder over several other bigger stacks throughout the day. During heads up, he never had the chip lead and it ended fairly quickly. On the final hand, they both had connected cards, but winner Homan Mohammadi turned a pair to take the lead and held for the win.

They are heads up in the High Roller now after Duff Charette ran into the queens of Taran Parmar. Charette was on king-jack and Parmar asked for the board to be "clean". The flop came out and the table laughed.
"Is that clean enough for you?" asked the dealer, Harvie. on the turn and river were irrelevant and Charette hit the rail for 3rd. He's had a good series though, with this being his third top-three finish of the series, and completing his gold/silver/bronze collection.
Taran Parmar opened the button to 200k and Duff Charette called from the big blind. They both checked the flop and turn, and Charette check-called for 210 on the
river. Charette had a five, but the kings for Parmar were good, though the flop slowed Parmar down a bit for value.
Duff Charette opened the button, the shoved when Homan Mohammadi raised it. Mohammadi called it down with the big stack, and was racing with against pocket sixes. The board ran clean for the sixes and Charrette doubled into the lead.

They are down to 3 left in the High Roller now after Daniel Lefebvre ended his day in 4th. It was a pretty brutal spot blind on blind as Lefebvre raised to 180k, then called the shove from Duff Charette in the big blind. Lefebvre had against
but Lefebvre flopped the world
. The turn paired the board with
giving Charette a flush draw as well, but
on the gave them both a pair of aces with a pair of sevens but Charette's kicker played for the win.

Homan Mohammadi opened to 120k under the gun and Daniel Lefebvre shoved the button for 830k. Mohammadi snap-called good with queens against king-jack, but the board had other ideas, flopping a jack and turning a king to give Lefebvre two pair for the win.

I picked up the action on the flop reading and Homan Mohammadi check-raised from the small blind to 425 over the bet from Damiel Lefebvre worth 120. Lefebvre called to the
turn and Mohammadi shoved the covering stack. Lefebvre tank-folded his hand.
"Do you want to sleep tonight?" Mohammadi asked. Lefebvre said yes and Mohammadi showed a seven.
"Thank you for showing."
Taran Parmar has been the short stack for much of the final table, but he just found a double to chip up. It was blind on blind when Duff Charette raised enough to put Parmar all in for his final 445k. Parmar opened his hand, found queen-jack, and called it off. He was up against ace-five but a jack on the flop put him ahead and he held to chip up to more than a million.

They are down to 4 left now after David Labchuk flopped open-ended against Daniel Lefebvre's aces blind on blind. It was limped preflop, and it all kicked off on the flop. Lefebvre bet near pot, Labchuk raised, Lefebvre reraised, then called the ship from Labchuk with a bit more. The board ran out to a double paired board and no straight cards came for Labchuk so he sent his stack to Lefebvre.

Homan Mohammadi opened to 105k from the cutoff and Daniel Lefebvre three-bet the button to 250k. It folded back around to Mohammadi and he asked how much Lefebvre was playing. He had chipped up a bit on the previous hand and had just over a million to start the hand. Mohammadi fired back the four-bet to 650k and Lefebvre quickly mucked.
There are just five players left in the High Roller now with James Du finishing 6th tonight. Homan Mohammadi is the big leader right now with about half the chips in play.

David Ko picked up the first five-figure score tonight for 7th place worth $11,756.
Colten Yamagishi took the final payout of less than $10k today as he ended his run in 8th place tonight.
Thet are down to 8 left in the High Roller after Dav McLeod busted out in 9th. I'm still working on finishing up posts on the Main Event so I've missed most of the action in this one but I should be over watching shortly.
They are down to 9 left in the High Roller now as Scott Hill just hit the payout desk for 10th place. I missed the action getting pictures uploaded.
Fat Wong was the player to bubble the final table tonight in the High Roller shortly after the dinner break. That puts them down to 10 and I'll grab some final table photos shortly.
The High Roller is back from the dinner break now with 11 players left, one off the final table. It looks like David Labchuk is the current leader with about 1.6 million in front of him while David Ko has 1.16 million and Colten Yamagishi has 800k. Homan Mohammadi looks to be down to about 600k.
They are on the Final Table bubble now with 11 players left in the game. Gary Rroprai, Kris Steinbach, and Andy Truong were the recent busts to get them to 11.
There are 14 players left in the High Roller now with start-of-day leader DJ Sharma the most recent player to hit the rail Chris Ckisby also had a big stack to start the day and he was out in 18th today, Right now it looks like Homan Mohammadi and David Ko are the co-leaders with both players on about 1 million and the two players from the west coast are seated side by side with Mohammadi on Ko's left.
They are down to the final two tables in the High Roller now with 17 remaining. We still haven't seen 24th place show up to get their payslip authorized so that spot is still blank, but the rest of the prizes so far today are updated under the Payouts tab.
The Main is on their first break of the day with 3 players left so I'm still not watching this game very closely. They are down to 22 now with seven pay spots already claimed but two players haven't checked in with the desk yet so the prizes under the Payouts tab are not complete, but five of the seven cashers so far are listed there now.
They are nearing the bubble now in the High Roller with the field down to 31 about 15 minutes into the day. I won't be watching this one too closely until the Main finishes.

When they finished 15 levels of play today, the High Roller ended with 34 players left. That means five players will have to go home from Day 2 empty-handed. Day 1 of this game was a raucous affair and while I didn't get to watch much of it, it was clear from the noise coming from the other side of the Sundance Room that they were having a lot of fun.
As is often the case, some of the loudest noise in the room came from DJ Sharma, who can often be heard shouting "It's Sharma TIME!" while hands are running out. I heard that a fair bit tonight, and it's easy to see why - the Edmonton McDonald's magnate bagged the biggest stack of the day with 744k. Vancouver's Homan Mohammadi wasn't far behind with just over 700k. Chris Clisby, Colten Yamagishi, and Daniel Lefebvre, whose streak of High Roller wins on the other Alberta poker tour recently came to an end, also bagged top-five stacks for the second day.
The final day of play in this one kicks off at 1 pm on Monday and action will be in the Sundance Room. They start in Level 16 with blinds at 4k/8k/8k and they'll play down to the ring. I'll be watching the final five in the Main Event as my 1st priority early in the day, but I have a suspicion that won't take long to finish and I'll be over on the High Roller coverage within a few hours of the game kicking off.
Full stacks are in the Chip Counts tab, and stay tuned for the seat assignments for Day 2.
They are 8 players off the money with just under 30 minutes to go in the night. They've just broken down to the final four tables with 36 players left and among them is Gaetano Buda, who was having a bad run here this time around but may be in a position to improve it a little here at least. I'll have eyes on the bags in a while, but some are below with DJ Sharma leading the way.

The prizes are in and posted under the Payouts tab, but the field of 192 is confirmed, which beat the May total by 41 entries. The prize pool is $377,280 in total and the winner tomorrow will get $88,743. Seven players at the final table will get scores of $10k or better, and 29 players will get some piece of the pie.
They are down to 38 left with just under 15 minutes to go in Level 14 and one more level to play tonight after this one. While I haven't had eyes on much of the action, I do have ears and this has been a loud one tonight (I joked earlier that I've covered team tournaments that were quieter than this one) and it's been clear even from across the room that the chips have been flying around pretty freely tonight. There's a very good chance they'll play into the money before the bags come out, but there are still nine players to go before then.
Reg is now closed and they finished with 192 entries on the board. Those numbers are yet to be confirmed but if they hold, 29 players will be getting some piece of $377,280 in prizes. The prize pool should be posted shortly and I'll confirm the numbers then.
They are just 15 minutes away from the end of entries now with the end of Level 12. Entries will be closed when they return from the break and currently, there are 187 entries on the board for prizes of $367,455 with 63 players left in the game.
There are still more than an hour left in entries for the High Roller, and they are already ahead of the May total of 151. The numbers now are up to 164 entries for prizes of $322,260 but the game has been a bit wild with lots of action, lots loud fun, and lots of chips flying around the room, so I fully expect more rebuys before the end of the game.
One player here this week is having a rough go of it. Gaetano Buda was on the final table of the Main Event in May and took 7th for $35k. This time around, however, he's been on the wrong end of the deck. He's just rebought into the High Roller after telling me outside that he's getting "rivered on every hand." Poker can be a brutal game, and we can probably all relate to how Buda is feeling this series.
Level 8 has just begun and they are up to 145 entries in the High Roller now with 108 players still listed in action on the board though I expect the number of live bodies in the game is a bit less than that as I'm only seeing 11 tables in play right now.
The field is up to 132 entries in the High Roller now, just 20 entries away from matching May's total. That puts the prizes right now at just under $260k with entries open until the start of Level 13, which should be around 11 pm tonight. They'll bag at the end of 15 levels tonight and return to finish it out tomorrow. Below is a look at the remaining players in the Main Event, which is playing across the Sundance room from the High Roller, as well as a look at the High Roller field.
The High Roller game has played three levels and they are out for their first break of the day. There are 112 entries on the board for prizes of more than $220k and 9 levels left to enter the game today.
Level 3 is about half complete now with the field over 100 entries and prizes of $200,430. Entries are still open for most of the day so expect that number to grow. In May, this High Roller game got 151 entries, so this one looks like it could meet or beat May's numbers, though that remains to be seen as the day plays on. Among the players seated for the big game are Canada's 11th-best money winner and multiple ring/bracelet winner, Mike Leah, as well as Chris Clisbym Stepehen Dauphinais (who scored big in Vegas this summer with 3rd in the Milly), and Sheraz Nasir.
There are also quite a few players who have busted Day 2 of the Main and jumped across to High Roller action including Ryan Cairns, DJ Sharma, Chun Kwan, Greg 'Greg Goes All In' Liow, Homan Mohammadi, and Kris Steinbach.
Event #15: | $2,200 High Roller ($1,965 + $235) |
Date: | Aug 18, 2024, 2 pm |
Blinds: | 40 Minutes |
Start Stack: | 40,000 |
Late Reg: | 12 Levels (~11 pm) |
Day 1 Ends: | End of Level 15 |
The High Roller is the second to last ring event of the series. For $2,200, players will start the day with 40k in chips for 40-minute levels all tournament. They play 12 levels of poker with entries open on Day 1, putting the last chance to enter the game at about 11 pm Sunday evening. After entries close, they'll play three more levels before they bag up for the night to return for Monday's Day 2.
I will most likely be focused on the Main Event for most of the day, but these two games should be playing out in the same room so I should be able to have some eyes on the High Roller as well later in the day.
