Event #13: $2,000 High Roller ($1,800 + $200)
Day 1: Feb 25 - 4 pm
Day 2: Feb 26 - 1 pm
Blinds: 40 Min
Start Stack: 50,000
Late Entry: Start of Day 2
Day 1 Ends: 9 Levels (~10:30 pm)
The opening edition of the 2024 PPT is now completely in the books with the results from Event #13: High Roller. The two-day game started on Feb 25 with nine levels of Day 1 play before resuming for Day 2 on Feb 26. Entries were open until the start of Day 2, and it was one of those max-late entries that took down the big prize.
Jimmy Lee rolled in on Monday before the start of play and then ran that all the way up to the win later in the evening. I wasn't able to follow the action much at all in this one with the Main Event playing out at the same time (and admittedly an early trip to the bar on Monday night before this one ended) but it was a late one with Day 2 action running until after 10 pm.
This was Lee's first cash of the series as far as I can tell, but runner-up Scott Hill bagged his second cash in this one after a run to 32nd in the Main Event on Sunday. 3rd place finisher Qingwei Meng from Toronto bagged his sixth big Western Canadian finish in less than a year. He had ~$170k in cashes out west, including High Roller runner-up in Calgary, a ring from Regina, and three other FT finishes going into this event and while this wasn't his biggest score, it will put him within $15k of $200k in wins from the west this year.
For Lee's part, he's the 7th winningest player in Alberta history, so he's no stranger to the top spot in tournament poker. With nearly $900k (USD) in live wins in his career, he's a feared opponent across the Canadian poker landscape, especially here in his hometown. This wasn't his biggest career score but hit the top ten on his life list and marks his 9th live win overall and fourth in his hometown of Edmonton. It was also a chance to add a "Max-late reg to the win" to his poker resume.
The prizes are in and the field for the High Roller is confirmed at 59 entries for $100,890 in total prizes. Eight players will get a piece of that prize pool with the winner set to pocket $32,190 with the min-cash set at $4,510.
Full prize details under the Payouts tab.
The High Roller action is underway now with 59 entries on the board to start the final day of play. That number is still to be confirmed when the prizes are up, which should be shortly.
The High Roller action is about to begin and there have been some new entries today before the game. I'll update the numbers and prizes shortly once the action is underway and the beans are counted but at the moment the field is sitting at 59 as the shuffle up command has been issued.
The weather has forced a change of venue for the High Roller. It will still play out today at Casino Edmonton, but the Social room is a deep freeze this morning, so all final-day action will be taking place in the Poker room today. HR players should head to poker straight off to get into the game.
Players can still buy into the High Roller until the start of play on Day 2 so there are a lot of empty seats in the seat draw to accommodate new players. However, depending on the number of new entries, they may be breaking one of the five tables at the start of the day. See below for the surviving players and seat assignments with updates to this expected tomorrow.

Event #13: $2,000 High Roller ($1,800 + $200)
Day 1: Feb 25 - 4 pm
Day 2: Feb 26 - 1 pm
Blinds: 40 Min
Start Stack: 50,000
Late Entry: Start of Day 2
Day 1 Ends: 9 Levels (~10:30 pm)
The first edition of the PPT for 2024 is winding down now with the final two events on the calendar set to kick off today. The High Roller starts dealing at 4:00 pm today with 9 levels of play on the schedule for Day 1. Players can enter as late as the start of Day 2, so there is lots of time for Main Event players to cash out and still jump into the HR.
Players sit down with 50k in chips for 40-minute levels throughout the game. Players who still have chips after nine levels will bag up to return on Monday at 1 pm to play down to a winner alongside the final table of the Main Event.
I likely won't be watching this one too closely today as I'll be focused on Day 2 of the Main Event, but I'll try to keep you updated on the numbers at least throughout the day.
