Prague is set to become the poker capital of Europe next month with the partypoker WPT Prague Festival of Poker kicking off in this week. This year’s Festival has a packed schedule at its new home, Grandior Hotel Prague, in the heart of the city.
Prague is famous for its stunning architecture; the piece-de-resistance is Old Town Square which, with its beautiful medieval buildings and magnificent churches, is one of the most impressive sights in Europe. The run-up to Christmas means you can also enjoy Prague’s famed Yuletide markets with gingerbread and hot wine stalls helping create a super-festive atmosphere. There are dozens of bars, café and restaurants in the Old Town - and no shortage of nightclubs either so you can party well in to the small hours.
The partypoker WPT Prague Festival of Poker features eight events plus numerous satellites. The €3,300 Main Event offers a single re-entry per flight and is running December 2 to 6. Late registration will remain open until Day 2 (Level 10) and every player will get a starting stack of 30,000 with 60 minute levels. Also on the schedule are a €5k High Roller with unlimited re-entries, a €675 Deepstack event, a €600 NL event and two €225 NL Turbos. There’s also plenty of action for PLO fans – a one-day €500 re-entry event on December 2 and a €1k PLO re-entry tourney on the final day – December 6.
Last year’s Main Event attracted 256 entries and was won by Spanish pro Javier Gomez Zapatero for €175,000. Gomez originally hails from the Spanish university town of Salamanca but now lives in London.
