Congrats to Dave McConachie, winner of 888poker LIVE London at the Vic

By Mad Harper

Londoner Dave McConachie (pictured) has won the 888poker LIVE London Main Event after outlasting a huge 385-entry field at the iconic Grosvenor Victoria casino in Edgware Road.

The next 888poker LIVE event is in Barcelona from May 10-22. Don’t miss the opportunity to compete in this fantastic destination: you can book your flights and accommodation now with MainEventTravel.

In London, McConachie snagged a career-best prize of £83,100 – and the coveted 888poker trophy – after beating Grosvenor regular Francis Obadun heads-up. McConachie came all the way back in the heads-up match after a deal was made earlier on. The final hand saw MacConachie’s A-J beat Obadun’s A-9.

The £1,100 Main Event was the highlight of a fantastic festival and saw a total of 38 players take a share of the £367,500 prize pool. McConachie said afterwards: "Playing with Francis is tough. I mean, he's a lunatic! He's a tough opponent. The whole final table was tough. I went card dead for a bit but things turned out in my favour. Today was a miracle."

McConachie’s £83,100 victory in London brings his lifetime live tournament winnings to over $600k and tops his previous best cash when he won the 25/25 tournament at Grosvenor Portsmouth only a month ago for £26,000.

Obadun was also pleased with the result. He said: "I came into the day thinking I could get top two. Obviously, it would have been nice to win, but it can go either way once you get to heads-up. I wasn't going to sit here and be a rock for two hours!"

Third-placed Ryan Otto scooped £39,500 only a few days after finishing fourth in the High Roller event for £19,760.

Next up for 888poker LIVE
Following London, the 888poker LIVE tour is now heading to Barcelona in May. Barcelona, the capital of Catalunya in Spain, is a hugely popular destination for poker players, combining a rich culture and beautiful architecture with great beaches and lively nightlife. Next up after that will be Bucharest in August. Bucharest is also a very popular stop; nicknamed the Little Paris of the East, the Romanian capital also has a long and rich cultural history with tons of art museums and landmark structures.  888poker LIVE will wrap up its European season with its third and final London stop in October.
