Worldwide Poker this August

By Mad Harper

August offers a real feast of poker worldwide. Whether you fancy somewhere close to home or a truly exotic destination like Panama or Taiwan, MainEventTravel’s global reach and innovative calendar feature make it easy to choose both when and where you’d like to play.

Well-known tours like the EPT, WPT, APPT, 888Live and WSOP Circuit all have festivals going on this August - but next month might also be the time to try out something new. Stateside, there is the celebrated Venetian Deepstack Vegas festival or the Mid States Poker Tour which has two events next month – in St Louis and Grand Falls. There’s also a bunch of events in Europe so if you fancy a tasty poker/beach holiday combo, then why not check out WPT Prime France in Aix-en-Provence, USDO Gujan Mestras near Bordeaux or EPT Barcelona?

You can use the calendar to search for events by month, and then fine-tune your search by filtering by tour, location, month or day. It’s a great tool for sorting out your favourite events – and if you’re logged into your account, you can also save all your options to your own personalised schedule using the “My Calendar” feature.

WSOP Super Circuit

Sponsored by GGPoker, the 18-day WSOP® Super Circuit festival is making its London comeback in August after a break of some 13 years. WSOP Super Circuit London will feature 15 official Circuit ring events from July 27 to August 13 and is offering more than £7 million in tournament guarantees.

APPT Manilla

APPT Manilla is running from July 27 to August 6 at Okada Manila in Paranaque. The APPT venue will be at the Coral Lounge right next to PokerStars Live Manila poker room. This is a massive festival with some 50 different tournaments on the schedule including the APPT

National starting July 29 which comes with a PHP 5 million guaranteed prize pool and the Main Event starting August 3 with a mouth-watering PHP 20 million guaranteed prize pool.

Venetian Deepstack Vegas

If you’re a deepstack poker fan then there’s no better place to head for this August than the Venetian DeepStack Showdown. The Venetian is a sumptuous Italian-style casino located right on the Strip and it’s been a mecca for deepstack players for more than 15 years. With 40 different tournaments on the schedule – and more than $850,000 in guaranteed tournament prize pools, the upcoming Venetian DeepStack Showdown is all the excuse you need to spend time in Sin City. It’s taking place throughout August with at least one tournament every single day.

MSPT – Mid Stakes Poker Tour

MSPT St Louis is the first of two Mid Stakes Poker Tour events taking place in August. The St Louis edition runs August 1-6 at the Hollywood Casino in St Louis. The Grand Falls edition is happening from August 18-20. The MSPT first launched in 2009 and was conceived as a series of affordable deepstack NL Limit Hold’em tournaments for "weekend warriors." The tour is geared toward recreational players but plenty of big-name poker pros have taken their shot at a MSPT title over the years including a bunch of Europeans such as Sergio Aido, Erwan Pecheux, Marvin Rettenmaier, and Ludovic Geilich.

WPT Prime France and Taiwan

You could describe the WPT’s new Prime series as “WPT Lite”. The tour has been designed to combine the premier poker tournament experience of a WPT Main Tour stop with affordable and more accessible buy-ins. WPT Prime France is running from August 3-6 at Pasino Grand in beautiful Aix-en-Provence. The €1,100 Main Event starts on August 2 with four starting flights including a Day 1d turbo. The schedule features 18 tournaments in all including an Omaha event, High Roller, Superstack and Progressive Knockout. EPT Barcelona

EPT Barcelona is taking place this year from August 21 to September 3 at Casino de Barcelona in the buzzy resort area of Port Olimpic.
