WSOP – all you need to know about this year’s changes!

By Mad Harper

There’s a ton of new changes for this year’s WSOP including live coverage every day and the final being played out in July rather than waiting for November.

MainEventTravel is the Official Travel Partner for all 888’s WSOP players with fantastic hotel packages awaiting qualifiers in Vegas.

Where to watch

A new TV deal with Poker Central/ESPN gives viewers WSOP Main Event coverage every day. This year’s ESPN set for the WSOP live broadcast will be back in the Brasilia Ballroom with a three-feature table format, and seating around a main stage. Broadcasts will be live on ESPN/ESPN2 with additional digital coverage provided by PokerCentral.

Poker Central takes over as the WSOP’s officially live-stream provider and PokerNews returns as the official live updater, with both chip counts and hand updates for all 74 official WSOP gold bracelet events. Poker News’s popular MyStack app  is back as the official player chip counting app.

For those lucky enough to make the final nine of the WSOP Main Event, there will just be a two-day hiatus before a three-day live finale on July 20, 21 and 22.

Player of the Year

With WSOP Europe on this year’s calendar, there are a total of 82 WSOP gold bracelets to contest for the WSOP POY crown in 2017. There are 71 events in Vegas, and 11 at WSOP Europe at Kings Casino Rozvadov starting October 19. King’s Casino is sponsoring this year’s Player of the Year, with the winner getting a seat into next year’s WSOP Main Event as well as the 2017 WSOP Europe Main Event at King’s in Rozvadov.

Where you’re playing

The Amazon Ballroom becomes the main tournament room for Day 1 play. With an expanded capacity of 180 poker tables, both the 10am/11am starting events and the 3pm events can fit together on most days, with the Amazon Room serving as the primary play area for bracelet events.

Overflow for large-scale events remains in the Pavilion Ballroom in most instances and the new 15-table Kings Cash Game Lounge “room within a room” will be the location for high stakes live action. King’s Casino is sponsoring the room to provide a glimpse of the Rozvadov high roller experience and is also sponsoring the Player of the Year.

Daily Deepstacks will now take place in the Miranda Ballroom, which becomes a bigger poker tournament room than in previous years with capacity expected to reach 45 poker tables.

Food, food and more food!

Food-wise, there will be more ! The “Poker Kitchen” becomes the “Grab ‘n’ Go” Poker Kitchenette with more “Grab ‘n’ Go” options. The Miranda Ballroom remains the primary location for hot food, with seating now in the hallways and a main sit-down location in the Pavilion Stage area. All-American Dave is back, offering tableside or pick-up service. In addition, hot dog carts will also roam throughout the tournament rooms, to service players looking for a quick tableside bite.

Caesars Entertainment is running a special promotion from June 1-30 for those that download the Caesars Total Rewards App. All new downloaders will be entered into a drawing to win a free $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat.
