Heading to Barcelona for the WPT? Here’s some travel tips

By

With a great beach and fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs right on the doorstep at Port Olimpic, Barcelona has become known as one of the best poker destinations in Europe. No wonder that the WPT has chosen the Catalan capital to host the biggest poker festival Europe has ever seen.

The WPT promises a fortnight of sun, sand, poker and includes WPT500, WPTDeepStacks and World Poker Tour events with a combined guarantee of over €5,500,000.

MainEventTravel is the WPT’s Official Travel Partner and has tons of accommodation options available close to the tournament venue including the stunning Hotel Arts right above the casino, and the luxury Pullman Skipper just around the corner.

Barcelona has myriad attractions to lure you out of the poker room. The city boasts history, culture, and architectural landmarks in vast quantities, from cathedrals to modern day buildings, as well as enjoying balmy days of sunshine even in March.

Every corner you turn reminds you that Barcelona is a hub of creativity, but there is nothing more unique than the Gaudi masterpieces sprinkled across the city like Park Güell, Casa Batlló or Sagrada Familia, the unmissable church that bursts through the skyline. When you get up close to his work, it looks as though the buildings have been rendered in wax because there is not one single sharp edge to it. It’s pretty extraordinary.

Also worth a visit is the most famous street in Barcelona, La Rambla – and tucked behind it is Mercat de La Boqueria, a enormous, atmospheric market with loads of fresh produce stands. It’s also a great spot to grab a bite to eat on the go. Another great lunch-spot is Plaça Reial (or Plaza Real) – an archetypally beautiful Spanish square just off The Ramla. Also close to Casino Barcelona is a gorgeous “barrio” called El Born, an extension of the Gothic Quarter. This is a little gem that you must check out if you love quaint, cobblestone streets, boutique shopping and authentic wine bars.

The WPT also happens to coincide with matches at the famous Barcelona FC Camp Nou (https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/tickets/football) – a visit to Camp Nou is a must for all soccer fans.
