Unibet off to Paris for last stop of 2019

By Mad Harper

The popular Unibet Open tour is heading to Paris this month with a €1,100 Main Event topping the schedule. The final event of the 2019 season is taking place at Club Circus Paris from November 28 to December 2.

Unibet Open Paris marks the tour’s second visit to the French capital. The first event took place in 2012 with Polish player Jaroslaw Barglik beating Swedish pro Kent Lundmark heads-up to take down the Main Event for €140,539. There were 439 entries in all, generating a €653,671 prize pool.

Among those competing in Paris will be Unibet Ambassadors David Lappin, Dara O’Kearney and Ian Simpson. O’Kearney, who lived in Paris in the 1990s, is looking forward to heading back to the city as a poker player. He said: “I love the city, but this will be my first time playing poker there. I’m a bit of a Francophile, I love the French way of life, food, wine – and my wife is French.”

Paris is one of the world’s most glamorous and romantic cities – home to iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe as well as the Louvre, the world's largest art museum.

As well as the flagship Main Event, the Paris schedule includes a €220 Progressive Knockout tournament and €165 Turbo along with the invitational Battle Royale and Tag Team Championship.

Unibet Open Ambassador David Vanderheyden and co-commentator Henry Kilbane will host a live stream throughout Unibet Open Paris covering the Tag Team Championship, the Unibet Battle Royale and Main Event.

The three 2019 Unibet Open events held so far have all been huge successes. February’s season opener took place in the Romanian ski resort of Sinaia. Czech player Martin Soukup became a two-time Unibet Open champion after winning for €71,000. In May, Unibet Open smashed its London track record with 456 entries into the Main Event. Britain’s Daniel James took it down for £80,200. Unibet Open broke records once again in September with 327 entries in Malta. British player Alan Carr won €53,400 after investing just €5 in a Unibet Poker satellite.
