The Inaugural ESPT/UKIPT Summer Festival Malta Starts in Two Weeks

By Mad Harper

It’s just two weeks to go before Summer Festival Malta – a brand new event that is being jointly hosted by the Estrellas Poker Tour and the UKIPT. The Festival will be taking place at the Intercontinental Hotel in the popular resort of St Julian’s from June 18-26.

Both the Estrellas tour and the UKIPT are having a hugely successful year so far so a massive turnout is expected for the new Summer Festival. The UKIPT kicked off 2022 with a big festival at the Hippodrome Casino in London where more than £1 million was awarded in prize money across 17 different tournaments. The tour is currently hosting a stop in Dublin and, yet again, big numbers are expected.

The Estrellas Poker Tour is also having a bonanza year; at their first event of 2022 in Madrid in April, the tour broke records with nearly 800 entries for the Main Event creating a €752,640 prize pool.

All this bodes well for the brand new Summer Festival Malta – especially as Malta is already considered a top poker destination and is home to hundreds of players. The recent Battle of Malta, for example, which also took place at the Intercontinental, attracted nearly 2,600 entries with winner Giuseppe Rosa snagging a giant €200,340 payday.

The €1,100 buy-in Main Event will take pride of place from June 22-26 with a €2,200 High Roller, €550 Deep Stack and €440 Mystery Bounty Cup also on the schedule.

Other highlights during the nine-day festival will include the €275 buy-in Summer Kick-Off Knock Out starting June 18, and a €5,200 Super High Roller starting on June 26.

With its gorgeous sunny weather, stunning beaches, and a wealth of tourist amenities, Malta is an amazing destination for poker players from all over Europe and beyond. In addition to the Battle of Malta, other major poker events which have already taken place in Malta this year include the Malta Poker Festival and Hendon Mob Championship, and the partypoker Championship.

Later this year, the Unibet Open will be heading back to Malta for the fifth time with a four-day festival running from September 29 to October 2. Finally, the second Battle of Malta of 2022 is taking place at the Intercontinental Hotel in early October (dates tbc).
