Ten Weeks to EPT Barcelona

By Kelly Saxby

Countdown to EPT Barcelona 2024!

Barcelona is where the European Poker Tour first began and this August marks the 21st year of this enduringly popular, now epic stop. Poker pros from all over the world will be flying into the Catalan Capital, lured by the promise of huge prize pools coupled with all the attractions of a truly superb holiday destination.

EPT Barcelona is running from August 26 to September 8 so there’s only a few months to go before the festival starts – and no better time to start planning your trip to take advantage of the best hotel rates and flight options on MainEventTravel. Barcelona promises sun, sea and high-octane poker action in abundance. The Trip Leader, MainEventTravel is the ideal place to book your accommodation and travel all in one go.

Walk to the Event from a Great Hotel

For luxury and proximity, you can’t beat the rock star favourite, the Hotel Arts Barcelona (pictured below). This is where the festival is held so you can roll out of bed and be at the tables in less than five minutes!

The Hotel SB Icaria is a slightly more affordable option and one of our favourite hotels in any city! Just three minutes walk from the venue, it boasts a fab restaurant, lovely rooms and the best rooftop pool in the city!

If the Arts and Icaria are slightly out of your budget, MainEventTravel has a range of hotels that can suit anyone's needs and are located a short walk from the Port Olimpic Venue. These include Hotel 4 Barcelona (pictured below) and the NH Barcelona Diagonal Center.

Barceloneta, which is just 25-30 minutes’ walk from the casino, is one of the most atmospheric neighbourhoods of the city and a very popular tourist destination in its own right - lots of hotels and fabulous traditional seafood restaurants. The city’s celebrated Born and Gothic quarters are also an easy stroll from the casino and lie right in the heart of the city.

Fortunately, Barcelona is a major hub for air travel too, giving travellers tons of options when it comes to budget flights. You can fly direct to Barcelona from all over the UK as well as scores of cities in Europe and beyond.

What’s in store at EPT Barcelona

EPT Barcelona is easily one of the most popular events of the year and has been a mainstay of every professional player’s calendar for nearly two decades. This year’s schedule has yet to be released in full but is set to feature dozens of different tournaments. Highlights will include the €1,100 Estrellas Main Event from August 26 to September 1 and the €5,300 EPT Main Event which starts on September 1. High rollers relish the chance to splash their cash at EPT Barcelona so they’ll definitely be marking the three-day €100k buy-in Super High Roller in their diaries. Last year, Norway’s Kayhan Roshanfekr won €750,960 in that event. Other champions in 2023 included Main Event winner Simon Wiciak (pictured below, now a PokerStars Ambassador), Lucien Cohen who took down the Estrellas Main Event, PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton, Jon Kyte, Tom-Aksel Bedell and Irish Open regular Mark Buckley.

PokerStars will also be laying on a ton of great off-the-felt activities too including the not-to-be-missed Players Party.

We wouldn’t want you to miss out on the best accommodation options just because you left it too late! So get planning now and check all our hotels and flights on the EPT Barcelona event page.
