Stage set for GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event

By Mad Harper

The eagerly-awaited £100,000 guarantee GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event starts today with Grosvenor-sponsored UK pro Jeff Kimber just one of the many big names expected in the Scottish capital. There will be a live stream throughout the four-day event, Scotland's  biggest poker tournament of the  year.

MainEventTravel.com now sponsors GUKPT’s all-in triangles so look out for them on the live stream from Edinburgh. We’re the tour’s Official Travel Partner so let us help you find a great hotel in Edinburgh, and the whole of the 2017 GUKPT tour.

Among those competing in Edinburgh will be GUKPT Passport winner Andy “LogJam” Hills who won the recent GUKPT Manchester for £46,987. Thanks to winning the 2016 Passport promotion, Andy is now free rolling every leg of the 2017 GUKPT tour. The first leg of GUKPT’s 2017 tour – in London in February – also made history, attracting a total of 435 entries, the biggest Main Event in GUKPT history.

Jeff Kimber wrote: “Edinburgh is one of the best places to play poker in the world – the Maybury Casino is beautiful, and of course should you bust out, you’re right in the middle of a beautiful, vibrant city with legendary nightlife. Every bar in the Grassmarket area seems to have live music every night. The bars are open late, the beers are flowing and for those with the stamina, the clubs are just getting going!

Playing poker in Edinburgh is great fun. Like Blackpool, a lot of the players don’t really play anywhere else, so there’s a real local flavour to this leg, but not in an unwelcoming way – far from it in fact, they love to see big tournaments coming to their local casino, and the GUKPT is the biggest in Edinburgh, and all of Scotland, in 2017.”

As well as the £550 buy-in Main Event in Edinburgh (which comes with a guaranteed first place of £25k), the schedule also includes a £100 six max event, £82 Omaha 4/5/6 tourney and £110 Bounty tournament. The last GUKPT Edinburgh was won by Tommy Le who topped a field of 184 for £25,000.

2017 is the GUKPT’s 11th consecutive season and promises to provide another record breaking year with a packed schedule and £1.8 million in Main and Mini Main guarantees. There will be nine legs in total this year before the GUKPT Grand Final takes place at The Poker Room above the iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London in November.
