Maxwell takes down UKIPT Nottingham + EPT news

By Mad Harper

British cash game pro Adam Maxwell has won nearly £100,000 after taking down PokerStars’ UKIPT Nottingham Main Event in his home town. There were a total of 582 entries in the £1,100 buy-in Main Event, creating a guarantee-busting prize pool of £564,540.

Maxwell (Pictured - photo credit: PokerStars and Danny Maxwell) is a NL Hold’em specialist who started playing poker online before discovering that the celebrated Dusk Till Dawn poke room was right on his doorstep. He mainly plays cash but dips into live events now and then – with marked success. Maxwell faced tough competition on the final table which featured a bunch of professional players including German online pro and former Estrellas Valencia champion Fabio Sperling.

The 27-year-old won £98,150 after cutting a heads-up deal with Jonathan McCann , who took home £74,500 for his runner-up finish. A total of 87 players were paid out with a min-cash worth £1,690.

Maxwell said: “It feels very good – it’s not quite sunk in yet. Heads-up was a tough battle but I feel like the cards went my way.”

UKIPT Nottingham, which ran from July 23-31, featured over £1 million in prize pool guarantees. There were 15 different tournaments on the schedule including the £2,200 High Roller, £5,300 Super High Roller and the £340 UKIPT Cup.

It’s EPT time next!

Next up on the PokerStars live events calendar is the hugely popular and eagerly-awaited EPT Barcelona. This massive festival runs August 8-21 at Casino Barcelona and will feature a total of 61 different tournaments including two Mystery Bounty events (one with a Platinum Pass added to the prize pool!), the €5,300 EPT Main Event, the €10,300 EPT High Roller and the €100,000 EPT Super High Roller.

Following that, a real treat is in store for British poker fans this Autumn with the return of EPT London – after a break of nearly seven years. The iconic event – which famously saw  Victoria Coren Mitchell seize her first EPT trophy back in 2006, will be held at the Park Lane Hilton from October 18 to 28. The festival will feature dozens of events including a UKIPT London Main Event, a UKIPT Mystery Bounty and UKIPT High Roller along with exciting EPT tournaments such as the EPT Main Event, EPT High Roller, EPT Super High Roller, H-O-R-S-E Championship and EPT Platinum Pass Mystery Bounty. The location is amazing, with stunning views over Marble Arch and Hyde Park in London’s famous Mayfair district.

The final EPT of the year will be EPT Prague which is taking place in its traditional pre-Christmas slot from December 7-18.

Road to PSPC

PokerStars will be back in Nottingham later this month with one of 13 “Road to PSPC” events being staged in the run-up to next January’s PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship in the Bahamas. The winner of the £340 Nottingham tourney, which is running August 26-29, will receive a $30k Platinum Pass to the PSPC which includes the $25k buy-in, six nights’ luxury hotel accommodation and $1,900 in cash towards expenses.
