MainEventTravel.com is joining forces with the award-winning Battle of Malta for its eagerly awaited 2018 event. The Battle of Malta – which was awarded “Best Low Buy-in Tournament in Europe” in 2015 – is back this year for its seventh edition.
The €550 buy-in event is running October 25-30 at Casino Malta, in the InterContinental Conference Centre in the heart of buzzing St Julian’s. For the first time, the Main Event will have a guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,0000 – double previous years.
As part of MainEventTravel’s comprehensive service, Battle of Malta players can now sort out everything they need for their trip to Malta all in one go. This includes the ability to register online for any of the three Main Event start days, as well as booking flights and hotel accommodation. MainEventTravel has a range of special deals for players booking their rooms and Main Event buy-in at the same time.
In addition to providing Battle of Malta with travel services for players and staff, MainEventTravel is also providing the event with general consultancy support, event management assistance and social media content.
Battle of Malta, which was first held by PokerListings in 2012, changed hands this year and is now owned by Eden Leisure Group, which also owns Casino Malta, the Hotel InterContinental (Malta’s largest 5* hotel), the Holiday Inn Express, and the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre.
This year’s €550 buy-in Main Event will feature three start days with 40 minute blind levels, all playing down to the money. Players can surrender their stack to re-enter the next day with late registration open until Level 10.
As well as several super satellites for the Main Event, there are numerous other side events on the schedule including a €220 NL Bounty tournament, €110 Ladies event, €165 PLO Double Chance, two-day €330 Deepstack Turbo, €220 Final Battle Turbo and the three-day €245 Siege of Malta tourney. A three-day €1,320 High Roller starts Sunday, October 28 with the final table held on the last day of the festival, on Tuesday, October 30.
The first Battle of Malta in 2012 attracted 349 entries, creating a total prize pool of €169,265. The event has grown year on year and in 2017 Battle of Malta once again broke its own record with a staggering 2,074 entries, making it the largest poker tournament ever held in Malta. The total prize pool was €1,005,890 with Israeli farmer Nadav Lipszyc taking it down for €200,000.
This year’s Battle of Malta promises to be the biggest yet and is being held in a spacious new location at the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre. The main arena has enough room for over 140 tables, providing enough room for more than 1,000 players every day.
With its superbly sunny weather (more than 300 days a year), stunning beaches, thriving nightlife and 7,000 years of incredible history, Malta is a near-perfect location for a poker tournament. Battle of Malta is taking place in busy, bustling St Julian’s, one of the island’s top tourist resorts, with a wealth of tourist amenities including clubs, restaurants, cafes and bars.
MainEventTravel.com Managing Director Fraser MacIntyre said: “We are thrilled to be partnering Battle of Malta and look forward to meeting all the players in October. Players really love Battle of Malta – it has a fantastic atmosphere and, of course, Malta is a dream location for a poker tournament. This is an event that has gone from strength to strength every year so it’s an honour to be partnering Battle of Malta and we’re looking forward to helping players with all their travel needs and buy-ins.”
Casino Malta owner Kevin De Cesare said: “Being the owner of the hotel, casino and event organization puts us in a unique position to be able to elevate this tournament to the next level.
“Our two hotels provide the largest number of rooms situated around a Casino in Malta, our Arena can easily take some 140 poker tables all on one level and our Casino is significantly larger than any other casinos in Malta.”
