 James Jones wins GUKPT Leeds

Cash game player James Jones has won the £1,000 GUKPT Leeds Main Event for £36,150. Jones, who came into the final as one of the shorter stacks, defeated John Bousfield heads-up to secure his first-ever GUKPT trophy.

GUKPT regular Bousfield secured £27,075 for his runner-up finish while Garry Spinks was third for £18,985. The final table was stacked with a bunch of well-known players including two-time GUKPT Blackpool runner-up Callum Gordon, GUKPT Blackpool Cup winner Abdulkadir Ahmed, GUKPT Luton runner-up Robert Douras and GUKPT Luton champ Chris Johnson.

There were 192 entries in the Main Event creating a £160,890 prize pool with 25 players finishing in the money. Among those who cashed were Simon Higgins, Keith Littlewood, Alex Montgomery, and GUKPT Blackpool champion Tuan Le. Le was already quids in after taking down the High Roller earlier in the week.

2022 Player of the Year Matt Davenport wasn’t on the final table after four GUKPT final table appearances in a row however still cashed – in 20th place – for £1,980. He was very busy topping up his bankroll in a host of other tourneys at GUKPT Leeds including fourth in the High Roller, fifth in the Opener, fourth in the PLO and he also min-cashed the Mini Main.

 Side Events at GUKPT Leeds

Tuan Le (pictured below) added another victory to his impressive GUKPT resumé by taking down the GUKPT Leeds High Roller for £18,900. He outlasted a 35-entry field to acquire his second GUKPT trophy. Arnoldas Liutkus won the £200 GUKPT Leeds Opener for £15,300. The event attracted 426 entries with 50 players getting a share of the £71,560 prize pool. Zak Rose won the £250 Mini Main for £14,250 after outlasting a 429-entry field while Glen Gaines won the £225 PLO tourney for £3,750. Kevin Smith won the Turbo for £2,700. Hossein Aghdaghi won the GUKPT Leeds Cup for £8.040.

Grosvenor is now about to embark on a major refurbishment of its Leeds casino poker room with the number of tables nearly doubling from 10 to 18.

GUKPT stops in 2024
Following GUKPT Leeds, it’s now all eyes on the Coventry Arena with Grosvenor’s annual Goliath extravaganza kicking off there on July 25. In September, the tour pays a second visit to Luton with Blackpool #2 in October and then the Grand Final taking place in Luton starting November 21.­­
