Irish Open up and running in Dublin

By Mad Harper

The popular Irish Open is underway in Dublin with a wealth of events at CityWest. Yesterday’s action included a guarantee-busting satellite for the €500,000 guarantee Main Event, the partypoker MILLIONS Day 1 and the €350 Deepstack 6-Max Championship.

Heading to Dublin? You can book your accommodation direct with MainEventTravel. Watch this space for some exciting MainEventTravel news soon!

Players already in attendance include such poker luminaries as Ireland’s all time #1 Andy Black, EPT London champ David Vamplew, LAPT runner-up Nicolas Cardyn, November Niner Griffin Benger, UKIPT winner Max Silver, Unibet Ambassador Dara O’Kearney, Peter Eichhardt, Jesper Hoog, Goran Mandic, Kevin Killeen, Steven Warburton, Dean Hutchison, Ben Winsor and Rory Brown while  MainEventTravel's own Fraser MacIntyre is headed to Dublin soon!

In the €150 Deepstack 6-Max PLO, Shaun Conroy won the €1,980 first prize, seeing off a field of 39 and final table opposition from partypoker Ambassador for Ireland Padraig Parkinson who won €740 for 4th place.

In addition to the €1,150 buy-in Main Event, this year’s Irish Open includes a feast of side events. Wednesday’s action includes a €350 Heads-up tourney, partypoker MILLIONS Day 2, a €2k High Roller, a €350 PLO event and a €150 6 Max Deepstack. The remaining days of the partypoker MILLIONS take place at Dusk Till Dawn in April.

Last year Irish player Dan Wilson took down the Main Event for €150,000 after beating a giant field of 802 players. The €801,500 prize pool massively beat the event’s €500k guarantee and 95 players finished in the money. Previous winners of the Irish Open include Patrick Clark, Ian Simpson, Kevin Vandersmissen, Niall Smyth, James Mitchell, Christer Johansson, Neil Channing, Marty Smyth, John Falconer and Joe Beevers – along with current TD Liam Flood, who won it in both 1990 and 1996.

A €500,000 guarantee, legendary atmosphere – and popular Shuffleboard outside the main tournament area – make this a really unmissable event. The Irish Open is the longest running No Limit poker tournament in Europe and one of the world’s most prestigious and lively poker festivals.
