Head to Vegas to ring in the New Year spectaculary!

By Mad Harper

When it comes to New Year’s Eve celebrations, there’s no better city in the world to party in than Las Vegas. Whether you’re there to play poker or simply take in the sights, the City of Sin really pulls out all the stops to make sure the last night of the year is one to remember.

Chief highlight away from the poker tables is the giant free fireworks show that takes place on the Strip – followed by numerous parties at casinos and clubs all over town. The entire four miles of the Strip – from the Mandalay Bay hotel right along to the STRAT – closes to traffic around 6pm and the road quickly turns into a giant party. When the display kicks off, spectacular fireworks are shot off the roofs of eight different resort properties.

Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza NYE

The Venetian is just one of the casinos that takes part in the display but chances are that you might well be inside the property rather than out. For poker players, the Venetian’s celebrated “DeepStack Extravaganza NYE” festival might prove just too big a temptation to ignore. On New Year’s Eve, the tournament running will be the $20k guaranteed $400 buy-in NLH MonsterStack, just one of some 58 different tournaments taking place during the festival which runs December 1 to January 8.

More than $2.2 million in guaranteed tournament prize pools is on offer overall with up to three different Deepstack tournaments taking place every day. There are event two events on Christmas Day itself – the Venetian certainly takes poker seriously during the festive season!

The highlight of the DeepStack Extravaganza NYE schedule comes just a few days after New Year’s Eve with the $1 million guaranteed Card Player Poker Tour Main Event. Starting on January 5, this features a $1,600 buy-in and three starting flights. The schedule also includes a $300k guaranteed MSPT NLH event tournament with a $1,100 buy-in starting on December 28.

The Venetian is a sumptuous Italian-style casino located right on the Strip and is always fabulously decked out for the holiday season. Not only can MainEventTravel help you book your flights to Vegas but we can also secure you a room right at the Venetian itself.

If you want to make a true poker holiday of it, there are two other festivals to enjoy over the Christmas period in Vegas – both at the Aria Casino. The Aria High Roller features buy-ins from $10,000 to $25,000 between December 1 to December 20 while the PokerGo Tour is hosting the PGT Cup  with eight different tournaments from January 11 – January 20.

Of course, Las Vegas also has countless daily poker tournaments at most of the major casinos throughout the year with buy-ins ranging from $35 (check out Westgate Las Vegas) to $200+ at the Aria, Orleans, Wynn and MGM Grand.

And you can check out the Horseshoe Casino Hall of Fame poker room in Vegas which is open for business!

Locals and visitors alike are getting very excited about the stylish renovation and rebrand of the card room at Bally’s which, like the entire casino, is being rebranded as the Horseshoe.

Although not officially launched yet, the room is open and a real treat is in store for all players who head that way.

The renovation is now virtually complete – ensuring that poker and the iconic Horseshoe brand are reunited at last. Horseshoe Casino, says Caesars Entertainment, was started by a gambler for gamblers and is known for its no-limit games. The Horseshoe brand is known for “gaming, poker and making it right for the gambler.” That spirit certainly came alive over the summer when the casino teamed up with Paris next door to co-host the World Series of Poker.

This was poker truly returning to its roots. The WSOP was first hosted by Jack Binion at the Horseshoe downtown in 1970 and was held there every year until 2005. In that year, most events – apart from the last three tables of the Main Event – were held at the Rio and the event moved to the Rio in its entirety in 2006.

On first viewing, the newly-renovated Horseshoe poker room is a very appealing and stylish space with plenty of room between tables and great lighting. In keeping with the world-famous “Horseshoe” style, the transformation has incorporated a handcrafted feeling – with tooled leather, dramatic colours and the brand’s signature gold horseshoe iconography.

Horseshoe Las Vegas stands at the “50-yard-line” of the Las Vegas Strip at the corner of Flamingo Road and diagonally across the street from Caesars Palace. It’s anticipated that the multi-million dollar Horseshoe transition will be fully complete by the end of the year. The huge project has included renovations to the exterior of the property, and a wholly reimagined casino floor and public areas. If you’re in Vegas, this is certainly a card room to visit – and it’s certainly gratifying to see investment in the live poker game.

Whatever your budget, you can be sure of having a great time in Vegas over New Year – and perhaps enjoy a monster cash to get your 2023 off to a great start.
