Goliath Main Event dates released – bag your hotel room now!

By Mad Harper

Grosvenor has just announced dates for this year’s Goliath Main Event, fuelling a flurry of activity on MainEventTravel.com as people rush to book accommodation near the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The £150 buy-in Main Event will get underway on July 29 with eight different starting flights over a total of seven days. Flight A is on July 29 at noon with the final two start flights taking place on August 4: Flight G at 11am and the Flight H turbo starting at 6pm. Late registration will be open until the end of Level 10 for all starting flights with all players sitting down to a 25,000 starting stack.

MainEventTravel.com, Official Travel Partner for Goliath and the GUKPT, is recommending all players bag their rooms now to take advantage of lower rates and make sure they get to stay exactly where they want.

Kelly Saxby, MET’s head of Retail Sales & Marketing, said: “Last year people left it pretty late to book their accommodation and were then disappointed that they’d missed out on good deals. Most rooms can be cancelled anytime until just a few days before check-in and we currently have several hotel options at lower rates. This year’s festival is taking place nearly a month earlier than last year so that will also put pressure on hotel bookings.”

The Goliath Main Event is by far Europe’s biggest live poker tournament and – aside from the online years of 2020 and 2021 - has attracted record-breaking fields every year since its launch in 2011. This year marks the 11th edition of the event and, yet again, Goliath is expected to smash attendance records with an estimated prize pool of over £1 million.

It’s not just the £150 buy-in Main Event which promises to make this year’s Goliath an epic festival. Goliath always features a ton of different tournaments on the schedule including a GUKPT Main Event and High Roller. Details on all this year’s tournaments will be announced shortly.

Last year Goliath broke records yet again with Kyle Jeffrey (pictured in winner's photo with friends) from Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire winning a “life-altering” £200,000. The £150 buy-in Main Event attracted a field of 10,584 entries to create a gigantic £1,219,270 prize pool. The GUKPT Main Event was won by rising star Jack Hardcastle for £125,450 with Ireland’s Ciaran Duffy taking down the £1,500 Goliath X High Roller for £61,750. Guy Taylor won Goliath’s first-ever Mystery Bounty tournament for £39,440.

The Goliath’s growth over the years has been extraordinary with more players taking part every single year since the event’s launch in 2011. Lee Rawson won the inaugural Goliath, outlasting a field of 1,764 players for a £32,705 payday.

Grosvenor Ambassador Andy Hills said: “The Goliath is always huge - bumper fields and immense fun. The 2022 festival had record-breaking attendance across all events and as good an atmosphere as I can remember. Every player I spoke to was having a whale of a time – win or lose!”
