By Mad Harper

Grosvenor Poker kicks off its 2023 GUKPT tour in one week with its time-honoured starting-point in London: the Poker Room at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.

GUKPT London is the first stop of the 2023 tour – the GUKPT’s 16th season – and is taking place from January 12 to 22 with a total of 15 different live tournaments. The festival a £100,000 guaranteed Main Event and £25,000 guaranteed Mini Main, as well as other popular fixtures such as the £250 + £250 + £50 buy-in Mystery Bounty (with two starting flights), a £1k PLO High Roller and a £2k NLH High Roller, the new £500 GUKPT Cup, a £150 Seniors tournament and a £150 + £150 + £30 PLO 4/5/6 Bounty.

This year’s £1,100 buy-in Main Event gets underway on January 19 with three start flights (including a Day 1c turbo), and two re-entries per flight. All players will receive a 20,000 starting stack with 60-minute levels.

The Leg 1 festival will also host the 2022 National Poker League Play off to determine which players from the 2022 Leaderboard are going home with £5k prize packages. GUKPT London will also be the first qualifying event in the 2023 National Poker League. Over the course of the year, players can garner points in 100 different events all over the country to win a £40k Player of the Year sponsorship package and a host of other prizes. Players can rack up points at GUKPT events. the new UK Poker Open event in February and Goliath in July as well as the 25/25 series, 25/50 series and Deepstack series.

For Matt Davenport, GUKPT London will mark his first outing as a member of Team Grosvenor. The 47-year-old from Macclesfield, who kept up an unassailable lead for months to become the 2022 Grosvenor Player of the Year, plans to play all the GUKPTs this year along with the new UK Poker Open and Goliath in July. He said: “I’m hoping for another successful year but it’s a bit much to expect a repeat of last year! I’m very proud to be wearing the Grosvenor patch and hopefully I will represent the brand well both in this country and overseas. The sponsorship has given me more freedom to have a shot at bigger buy-in events, so as well as the GUKPTs, I also hope to play EPTs and WPTs. Bankroll management is a big part of any poker player’s thoughts so that effective extra £40k is massive.”

Huge numbers are expected at the forthcoming GUKPT London after last January’s season opener became the biggest ever GUKPT Main Event in the tour’s history. Tim Chung took top honours last January after beating a 702-entry field to win £185,560.
