Check out UK Poker Open Coventry Schedule and Accommodation

By Mad Harper

Last year the UK Poker Open immediately broke records as the biggest Grosvenor tournament ever held. With a £1,500 buy-in, the Main Event attracted more than a thousand entries and created the biggest prize pool in Grosvenor poker history.

This year's UK Poker Open will run from February 23 to March 3 at the Grosvenor Casino Coventry in the Coventry Building Society Arena. The Main Event starts February 28 with a prize pool estimated to top £1 million. Satellites will run live prior to this.

Full schedule details are available here and include player favourites such as the UK Cup, UK Open High Roller, Ladies Championship, Mystery Bounty and the Mini UK Open.

The Grosvenor’s Coventry casino venue, home to the annual Goliath festival – is rated as one of the country’s top casinos and its central UK location and great transport links make it an easy travel destination for players from all over the country.

Given the event’s popularity, it makes sense to bag your accommodation as soon as possible with MainEventTravel.com, Grosvenor’s Official Travel Partner.

In the debut UK Poker Open, Man Moc (pictured below) won a life-changing first prize of £325,190 – the biggest Grosvenor prize ever. Just before receiving his trophy, he said “I still can’t believe that I’ve won. It was such a hard final table, really really tough. I was just thinking “ladder, ladder, ladder” and before I knew it, I was the chip leader!”

MainEventTravel hotel recommendations
Below you’ll find details for five local hotels offering highly competitive rates that we’re recommending to UK Poker Open players. They’re all comfy, and conveniently located no more than 15 minutes’ drive from the tournament venue.

Royal Court

The Royal Court Hotel is always a popular choice with players heading to Grosvenor Casino Coventry. It’s not just close to the venue (2.4 miles) but it’s also a beautiful property – a Grade II listed country house set in 11 acres of landscaped gardens, with a fabulous spa that guests can use for just £4 a session. MainEventTravel has numerous booking options including room only, paying the hotel direct or free cancellation up to February 19.

Days Inn

The Days Inn is a great option for players on a budge. Tucked away behind the service station between Junctions 3 and 4 on the M6, it’s not the most glamorous of hotels but the low cost and huge convenience more than makes up for the utilitarian location. It’s just an eight minute drive to the UK Poker Open venue and every room is well-equipped with free wifi, a flat screen TV, hairdryer, tea- and coffee-making facilities, power shower and comfy Hypnos bed. Reception is open 24/7. The service station also has restaurants and shops that are open 24 hours a day. Electric vehicle charging is available onsite.

Britannia Coventry

Even though the Britannia Coventry is a city centre hotel, it’s still only a 12-15 minute drive to the UK Poker Open venue. Located in the heart of Coventry overlooking the cathedral, the Britannia has a restaurant and bar. All rooms have TV, hairdryer and tea- and coffee-making facilities. WiFi is free in all the public areas (£7 for 24 hours per device in the rooms). There is no parking on-site but Lower Ford Street car park is just four minutes walk and costs up to a maximum of £8 per 24 hours.

DoubleTree by Hilton Coventry

The DoubleTree by Hilton Coventry (not to be confused with the DoubleTree at the CBS Arena) is a stylish option just five miles/12 minutes’ drive from the Arena. It boasts a ton of amenities including free access to the luxurious LivingWell spa with 15m indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. All the rooms have a bathtub with shower, desk, 32-inch HDTV, media hub for connecting electronic devices, tea- and coffee-making facilities. There is free Wifi throughout the hotel plus on site restaurant and bar. Room service is round the clock (with a reduced menu from 10pm.) Secure parking in front of the hotel costs £6/day.

Holiday Inn, Coventry

The Holiday Inn Coventry, located at Junction 2 of the M6, has all the creature comforts you’d expect from this well-known chain. It’s close to both the CBS Arena venue (10 minutes’ drive) and the city centre. . All the rooms have TV and tea- and-making facilities and the Wifi is free. There is an onsite bar and the Lobby restaurant serves Full English Breakfast and dinner. There is also 24/7 room service. A nice Holiday Inn touch is that, if you have left your laptop behind, you can use one at the hotel. Parking is £10 overnight.
