Building up to the big one – EPT Prague in December

By Mad Harper

PokerStars has enjoyed a sizzling summer of events and and there’s no let-up over the next few months as we approach the spectacular EPT season-ender in Prague.

EPT Barcelona in the bag

EPT Barcelona finished earlier this month, yet again, was a massive event. The newest Main Event champion is 30-year-old Frenchman Simon Wiciak (pictured below) who outlasted a 2,120-entry field to snag a career-best score of €1,134,375. Wiciak, a successful online player, only recently started playing more live poker but his performance in the second-biggest EPT Main Event in history will be long remembered; he was chip leader for the last three days of the event and only relinquished the top spot for a few brief spells. He said: "I have felt so many emotions. Even if I looked in control and confident in my plays, I am still a human. And this was the first time I played an EPT Main Event."

Busy Autumn for PokerStars fans

The newly revived UKIPT tour is heading to the Hippodrome for UKIPT London next week. Flagship events include the £2,200 High Roller (Sept 20-21), the £1,100 Main Event (Sept 21-24) and the £330 Cup (Sept 23-24). Then it’s UKIPT Edinburgh starting on October 24 followed by the UKIPT Nottingham Grand Final from November 4-13. French poker players can enjoy two upcoming FPS festivals – FPS Aix-Les-Bains and FPS Aix-En-Provence, while events in the South of Spain in Malaga and Seville will be a treat for Estrellas fans. (See below for details)

EPT Prague

The EPT will be joining forces with the Eureka Poker Tour for its first ever event in Cyprus next month with an 11-day festival from October 11-22. But the BIG PokerStars event coming up is EPT Prague. This annual extravaganza in the Czech capital is one of the highlights of the poker year and starts December 6. MainEventTravel has a ton of great hotel options available near the tournament venue – at least 20 within half a mile (easy walking!). Prices start from as little as £750 for the full 11 nights of the festival.

Prague is easily the most festive of all poker destinations in December with its gorgeous architecture, lively Christmas markets, cheap bars and restaurants and lively nightlife all on offer. To take advantage of MainEventTravel’s great rates, it’s worth nailing your accommodation ASAP! The festival runs December 6-17 and is not one to be missed!

The full schedule for EPT Prague will be announced shortly but key dates for your diary include the €5,300 EPT Main Event (December 11-17), the £3k Mystery Bounty (December 13-15) and the €10,300 High Roller (December 15-17). At last year’s EPT Prague, Jordan Saccucci won €913,250 after topping a record-breaking field of 1,267 entries. Runner-up Antoine Saout, who was third in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, secured €800,000 in a heads-up deal.
