The whole poker world was enthralled at Andreas Klatt’s run of tournaments last week which saw him win the PokerStars Monte Carlo National Championship, and follow it up just days later by finishing runner-up in the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo Main Event.
Now Klatt looks set to make another deep run, as he bagged 504,000 on Day 3 of WPT Amsterdam, good enough to be starting today fourth in chips with just 32 players left.
The prize pool has now been confirmed, giving a first prize of €152,600 along with a €15k package to the WPT Tournament of Champions. There are 28 players getting a share of the €639,740 prize pool, with a min-cash worth €4,425.
The current chip leader is WPT Travel “frequent flyer” Shyngis Satubayen on 570,500. Satubayen, who hails from Kazakhstan and Russia, has been doing well of late – he finished seventh in the WPT Amsterdam High Roller for €17,915 and also cashed in a €5k NL Turbo at PokerStars Monte Carlo on May 5 for €14,100. His best finish to date was winning the €1,300 NL Cash Ville Cup in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, in 2014.
Several players, including Klatt, will be looking to secure an extra €1,000 for cashing in the WPT Main Event as part of the PokerStars/WPT MonteDam Swing. Omar Lakhdari (148,000), Fabrice Soulier (61,500) and Louis Salter (464,500) all cashed in Monaco and are still in contention in Amsterdam. Soulier’s partner Claire Renaut is also still in with 102,000 and the Netherlands is well represented by players such as EPT Copenhagen champ Noah Boeken (216,000), Jorn Walthaus (307,500) and 2016 Master Classics of Poker winner Hakim Zoufri (357,500) all in the running.
