Alan Sternberg leads last 27 in WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Finale

By Mad Harper

Former WPT champion Alan Sternberg is leading the last 27 players in the $10k, $2m guarantee Seminole Hard Rock Poker Finale.

We’re the tour’s Official Travel Partner so let us help you find great accommodation for the first stops of WPT Season XVI including WPT Amsterdam and WPT Beijing.

Sternberg, who won the 2011 Bay 101 Shooting Stars Main Event for $1,039,000, has 1.6m in chips. Late registration closed with 349 players – including Dan Colman who is leading for the final of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship. The total prize pool is $3,315,500 with 44 getting paid and $716,088 up top for the winner which includes a $15,000 seat in the WPT Tournament of Champions that starts on Friday (April 7).

Also still in contention are WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess, Jason Wheeler, Jake Cody, Will Failla, Marvin Rettenmaier, Jason Koon and former PCA winner Harrison Gimbel.

The field started to tighten up well in advance of the money bubble last night, and from 55 players, progress advanced slowly to the 44 players that would make the money. However there wasn’t a single hand of hand-for-hand play to burst the money bubble with Dani Dayan the unfortunate bubble boy. After the bubble burst, the pace picked up once again and the final 27 players were reached around 2 a.m. ET.

Notables that cashed on Day 2 included Sam Panzica (40th), the WPT’s Tony Dunst (39th), Joe Elpayaa (36th), Charlie Carrel (35th), Dietrich Fast (33rd), Kevin Eyster (32nd), and Jonathan Little (31st).
