2024 Irish Open Breaks Records

By Kelly Saxby

Poker pro Tero Laurila (pictured with FT above) has won the record-breaking 2024 Irish Open Main Event for a first prize of €292,685 after a three-way deal with runner-up Hiep Ninh and 3rd place finisher Mark Johnston. Ninh scooped the lion’s share in 2nd cashing for €335,636 and Johnston took home €232,685.

This year’s Irish Open Main Event broke its own record to become the wealthiest poker event ever in Irish history with 3,233 entries and a €3,152,175 prize pool.

The €500,000 guaranteed Mini Irish Open attracted 5,320 entries to become Ireland’s largest-ever tournament.

Irish Open organiser Paul O’Reilly said: “Many congratulations to this year’s Main Event champion Tero Laurila – our first-ever Finnish winner. We also would like to thank our sponsors and the thousands of players who competed this year for the most superb week at the Royal Dublin Society. The huge success of this year’s festival would not have been possible without a massive number of people working tirelessly to support it – 450 in all! – including a record 223-strong team of dealers and floor staff.

Players traveled from far and wide to attend Europe’s longest-running and largest poker festival. In addition to the huge attendance from the Emerald Isle and UK, nearly 40% of players hailed from around the globe including Germany, Canada, United States, France Netherlands, and the list goes on.

Amongst the field of thousands, MainEventTravel.com patches could be seen, worn by both loyal fans of the brand and by those who booked with MainEventTravel.com and were vying for a #FinalTableFreeroll finish. One of the customers in the field was Irishman Drew Dwyer, who took to Facebook to get involved in the #FinalTableFreeroll after he booked his Tournament Travel with MET!

Drew (pictured above) said: " Main Event Travel made everything so convenient and was a positive experience with everything arranged, will definitely be using them for further bookings, nice to deal with pleasant efficient staff."

MET’s own Kelly Saxby (pictured below with Charlie Godwin and Katie Swift) was on hand to assist and chat to customers and squeeze in a game ortwo!

Kelly said: “I spoke to several players who booked with MET for multiple reasons. They think the rates are great, the customer service is second to none, they took advantage of the Luxon Pay offer, or they loved the #FinalTableFreeroll promotion. I also got the low down on customers' favourite hotels nearby and will be working to continue to deliver the best rates again next year at our customer's top choices."

As the Official Travel Partner we are already looking forward to the Irish Open 2025, watch this space for details and travel!
